/ Ka-ua-nono-ʻula / WahiLocation, Place Names of Hawaiʻi (1974),

Area around the intersection of Merchant and Alakea streets, Honolulu, Oʻahu, said to be named for a chiefess fond of playing kōnane. Another version is that when Kaulanaikapōkiʻi came here from the legendary land, Kuaihelani, rainbows attested her rank, hence the name of the place. Literally, the dark red rain.
