Kamilo (kă-mi'lo):
/ kă-mi'lo /milo tree (Thespesia populnea). Cape, Kau, Hawaii.
milo tree (Thespesia populnea). Cape, Kau, Hawaii.
Point, Ka Lae qd., Hawaiʻi. Literally, twisting (of current). Two places here were called Kamilopaealiʻi (Kamilo landing [of] chiefs) and Kamilopaekānaka (Kamilo landing [of] commoners). Drowned commoners washed in at the latter, chiefs at the former. Kaʻū people traveling to Puna cast leis tied with loincloths and pandanus clusters into the sea at Puna; when the leis drifted back to Kamilo, the Kaʻu people knew that the travelers had reached Puna.
Points, Līhuʻe district, Kauaʻi, and Kīpahulu qd., Maui. Kauaʻi and Maui points, probably literally, the milo tree.
