Subject: How to decide between attending UH Hilo in person or via distance learning during Fall 2020

Aloha Students,

I just wanted to let you know that we are progressing on preparing courses for Fall 2020 and are about 70% done with converting classes to allow you, our students, to have a choice between attending UH Hilo in person or remaining in a different location and taking your courses all online.

Option 1: Distance Attendance, All Courses Online
If you wish to attend UH Hilo from another location this Fall, you have the option to do so. Approximately 85% of the courses we offer will be available online for you to choose from while constructing your schedule.

Option 2: On Campus Attendance, Course With A Mix Of In Person And Online Attendance
All courses are available to students who wish to be on the UH Hilo Campus this Fall. Approximately 75% of the courses will be available with a face to face, in person lecture component, while roughly 25% of the classes will be held all online. If you are on campus you can choose between any of the courses we offer to build your schedule.

How To Tell If A Class Will Be Available All Online
Classes that can be taken all online, so you don't have to come to campus are marked as "Original Online", "Online Scheduled", "Online Unscheduled" or "Hybrid" under New Mode of Delivery in the Fall 2020 Conversion Spreadsheet.

On the Class Schedules website and in STAR GPS, Online Unscheduled courses are marked with TBA and WWW in the Meeting Time and Room. Online scheduled and hybrid classes that have descriptions saying "class is conducted at the scheduled day and time using online software"or "students may choose up to 100% online attendance" allowing students to attend completely via distance without having to come to the UH Hilo Campus at anytime during the semester.

How To Tell If A Class Requires In Person Attendance

Classes that require in person attendance during the semester are marked as "Experiential/Lab F2F" under New Mode of Delivery in the Fall 2020 Conversion Spreadsheet.

On the Class Schedules website and in Star GPS, courses that require in person attendance have descriptions saying "students MUST attend some meetings in person".

How To Tell If My Class Will Offer In Person Lectures/Labs/Clinicals Etc.

Classes that offer in person attendance during the semester are marked as "Hybrid" or "Experiential/Lab F2F" under New Mode of Delivery in the Fall 2020 Conversion Spreadsheet.

On the Class Schedules website and in Star GPS, courses that offer in person attendance have descriptions that say "meets at scheduled day and time using a combination of in person and videoconference attendance". Instructors will determine when students who choose to attend in person may do so. Our goal is to attempt to provide 1 in-person session per week, health conditions permitting.
