Tenure Track Teaching Faculty:
This handbook provides guidance for full-time tenure track teaching faculty at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Tenure track positions for teaching faculty at the University of Hawaii are those meeting both of the following qualifications:
- Rank I3-I5 (assistant professor, associate professor, or professor)
- Assignment of a permanent position number (not suffixed by the letter T)

This handbook provides guidance for I-2 Instructional faculty applying for contract renewal, performance review, contract renewal, or promotion.
Specialist Faculty in Academic Affairs:
This handbook provides guidelines, policies, procedures and forms for full-time faculty specialists in Academic Affairs at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, except for librarians, who wish to apply for contract renewal, tenure and/or promotion. Included is information about the responsibilities of candidates, reviewing faculty, and administrators.

Dossier Submission Portal
All dossier materials must be submitted via the new Tenure and Promotion online system. Please visit the link below for further information:
September 3, 2021 is this year’s deadline for submitting change of probationary period requests and/or waiver of minimum qualifications requests. Change of probationary period and waiver of minimum qualification requests should be routed to the Chancellor via the chair, division chair (if appropriate), dean/director, and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs/Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
All requests for adjustment must be approved by the Chancellor before the dossier may be reviewed.
- Early promotion and extention requests (if applicable)
October 1, 2021 (Application Deadline) is the application deadline for all contract renewal, tenure and promotion. All dossiers must be turned in to the appropriate college deans office by the of the business day. Please check with the office for their working hours.
October 1, 2021 (Exclusion Requests) is also the deadline for exercising the TPRC exclusion option. These should be sent to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs/Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (as appropriate), using the TPRC exclusion form. Please be sure your faculty know that they will need to sign and submit the TPRC Exclusion form even if they choose not to exclude anyone from the TPRC. Applications cannot be assigned to TPRCs until this form has been submitted.
January 7, 2022 is the date by which 2nd, 4th year tenure-track faculty and Instructors should be notified as to personnel actions.
February 11, 2022 is the due date for submission of dossiers to the Chancellor via the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs/Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
