University of Hawaiʻi System Articulation Agreement for the BS in Nursing
Between
University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo
and
Hawaiʻi Community College
Kapi‘olani Community College
Kaua‘i Community College
University of Hawaiʻi Maui College
Introduction
The University of Hawaiʻi consists of ten campuses located on four islands in the state of Hawaiʻi. While each campus has a unique identity and mission, the ten campuses operate as one system.
During the course of their education, students may decide to transfer from one campus to another in the University of Hawaiʻi (UH) system. The development of an articulated program of study supports the transfer of earned academic credits within the UH system.
Purpose
The primary purpose of this articulation agreement is to facilitate the matriculation of students and the transfer of courses across the university system. Moreover, it is intended to inform students of the program opportunities in nursing that are available to them throughout the UH System.
This agreement will facilitate the pathway from the KCC Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (RN) to UH Hilo Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). This agreement will supersede the University of Hawaiʻi system articulation agreement for the BS in Nursing between University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo and Hawaiʻi Community College, Kap‘iolani Community College, Kaua‘i Community College, and Maui Community College (May 2010). This agreement accords with the UH system “Memorandum of Agreement: Transfer of General Education Core Requirements (May 2010), the UH Hilo-Kapiʻolani CC “Memorandum of Understanding...on a Degrees Pathways Partnership Program (2006), and catalog choice policy for UH system campuses.
This agreement is for students who have completed an Associate of Science in Nursing at Kapiʻolani Community College, University of Hawaiʻi Maui College, Kaua‘i Community College, and Hawaiʻi Community College who desire to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.
Students will initially apply and be admitted to UH Hilo as “Pre-Nursing” students (meaning Pre-BSN program) in order to complete the courses specified in exhibit A. Once completed, students will be reclassified as “Nursing” students.
Under the terms of this Agreement, Kapiʻolani Community College, University of Hawaiʻi Maui College, Kaua‘i Community College, and Hawaiʻi Community College agree to:
- Continue to offer the ADN (RN) program
- Identify a Student Services Advisor(s) who will partner with UH Hilo’s advisor(s) to ensure timely and accurate advising on pre-admission, admission, degree requirements and other related advising information.
- Identify a faculty member who will serve as the faculty advisor to students in the Nursing program.
- Ensure that students seeking admission to the UH Hilo RN to BSN program will complete and submit the Degree Pathways application form to UH Hilo.
- Meet with UH Hilo faculty and/or administration minimally every two years, or on an as needed basis, to discuss potential and planned curricular changes.
- Cooperate with UH Hilo on dual enrollment processes to benefit the matriculation and transfer processes for the ADN to BSN program.
Under the terms of this Agreement, the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo agrees to:
- Identify a Nursing School faculty advisor who will partner with advisor(s) to ensure timely and accurate advising on pre-admission, admission, degree requirements and other related advising information.
- Meet with faculty and/or administration every two years, or on an as needed basis, to discuss potential and planned curricular changes.
- Cooperate with Kapiʻolani Community College, University of Hawaiʻi Maui College, Kaua‘i Community College, and Hawaiʻi Community College on dual enrollment processes to benefit the matriculation and transfer processes for the ADN and BSN programs.
Students must complete all courses required by the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo School of Nursing as shown in exhibit B to complete the BS in Nursing.
This Memorandum of Agreement is effective beginning Fall 2017. This Agreement will be reviewed minimally every two years or as necessary, in order to support the transfer, matriculation and graduation of ADN and BSN students from University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo, Kapiʻolani Community College, University of Hawaiʻi Maui College, Kaua‘i Community College, and Hawaiʻi Community College. In particular, changes to the curricular requirements of either program subsequent to this agreement may require revisions to the agreement.
Should parties agree to terminate the Agreement, UH Hilo will honor the Agreement’s stipulations for students currently enrolled in the program at the time of termination.
