Director, Small Business Development Center (SBDC) (#89287T) Position Description

UH Hilo, Office of the Chancellor, Small Business Development Center (SBDC), general funds, full-time, temporary, to begin approximately May 2023, pending position clearance and availability of funds.

Duties

Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with key stakeholders in the political, governmental, economic development, business and academic communities. Supervises the State Director's Office located in Hilo. Leads strategic planning, including goal setting, and benchmarking. Establishes and monitors budget. Monitors and analyzes network performance to increase productivity and efficiency. Seeks supplemental funding through grants, contracts and gifts; conducts marketing campaigns. Establishes partnerships to meet the needs of the small business community. Serves as the key advocate and liaison for the SBDC with the US Small Business Administration. Leads efforts to maintain Association of Small Business Development Centers (ASBDC) certification. Ensures compliance with all federal, state and university funding regulations. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in business or related discipline from an accredited college or university OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or related discipline (i.e Accounting, Advertising, Business Management/administration, Economics, Finance, Healthcare Management, Human Resources, Management...) plus at least four (4) years of additional relevant experience in business assistance agency administration, small business management of a substantial company, managerial business consulting or a combination of these. Eight (8) years of executive or management experience in business assistance agency administration, small business management of a substantial company, managerial business consulting, or a combination of these, but including at least four (4) years’ experience in supervising employees. Demonstrated ability to provide executive leadership through strategic planning and partnership building. Demonstrated ability to raise funds from public and/or private sources; develop and manage budgets, people and projects effectively. Demonstrated ability to advocate publically through writing and speaking. Demonstrated knowledge of the business consulting process. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal and external constituencies. Experience using personal computers, including the use of spreadsheet and work processing software.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience as an SBDC State Director, Associate State Director or Service Center Director. Demonstrated success in Vision development and Strategic Planning. Demonstrated experience working through an accreditation or similar review process involving compliance with standards. Demonstrated understanding of the management and financial challenges faced by small businesses. Demonstrated success in managing remotely a distributed network of offices. Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships in diverse communities. Success in developing new funding sources including grants and contracts. Success in adapting to new environments.
