Assistant Professor of Computer Science (#84322) Position Description

UH Hilo, College of Natural and Health Sciences, tenure-track, general funds, full-time, nine-month appointment to begin approximately August 2023, pending position clearance and availability of funding.

The University of Hawai’i at Hilo is a state university with a private college atmosphere. We offer small class sizes, a low student-to-faculty ratio and opportunities for undergraduate research. We are located in the colorful town of Hilo, which is surrounded by natural beauty on the Big Island of Hawai’i.

The successful candidate will have ample opportunity to collaborate with natural scientists studying the “living laboratory” of this island and will also be able to make an impact on a small but dynamic CS department.

Duties

Teach lower- and upper-level undergraduate courses in computer science; assist in ongoing curriculum maintenance and development; engage in computer science research; advise students; and participate in community and university service.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral-level degree at the time of appointment from an accredited university in computer science, data science, computer engineering, or a closely related field (all requirements for the degree must be completed by August 2023; experience with teaching computer science courses; record of successful research publication.

Desirable Qualifications

Evidence of high-quality undergraduate instruction (e.g. teaching evaluations) in computer science and/or data science courses; experience in developing undergraduate curricula; ongoing record of research publication in well-regarded computer-science-related conferences and/or journals; evidence of engaging undergraduate students in recent research activities. Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations that reflect the University’s Native Hawaiian and Pacific-islander serving context.

Pay Range

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
