UH Hilo, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, full-time, general funds, permanent, to begin December 2019, pending position clearance and availability of funds.
Center and Student Employee Supervision: Provides immediate supervision for all Kilohana student employees. Supervises operations at Kilohana Centers with Director. Monitors student visitor behaviors and independently addresses as situation requires. Provides Director with summary of daily activities observed with recommendations. Works with Director to evaluate student employees’ performance. Works with Director to create and maintain student employee work schedules throughout the year. Reconciles student employee work log with UH SECE time sheet before approving. Secures all student employee personnel files in accordance with applicable rules and regulations, including but not limited to FERPA. Works with Director to evaluate applications for student tutor positions, interview applicants, and make hiring decisions. Works with Director to deliver student employee training throughout the year. Familiarizes student employees with protocols for handling faculty provided resources left in Centers. Evening supervision.
Administrative: Works closely with Director to monitor, maintain, and generate projections and expenditures concerning unit operating budget including student payroll (A) and non-payroll (B). Works closely with Director to identify annual unit purchases based on continuing assessment of student visitor and employee needs and usage. Works with Director to upload Placement Assessment scores throughout the year. Works with the Director to maintain and update all Kilohana websites. Conducts outreach to and maintains regular contact with faculty members from various departments affiliated with Kilohana Centers. Maintains and monitors all subject specific resources received from faculty members for student visitor use in Kilohana Centers. Generates reports capturing Center usage, student grades earned, and other relevant information extrapolated from TutorTrac to inform decision making concerning Center operations and resource needs. Works with Director to promote Kilohana services to the campus community throughout the year. In the absence of the Director responds to queries about Kilohana services, resources, and the Writing, Math, and Chemistry Placement assessments in a timely manner. Other duties as assigned.
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in a STEM major, STEM Education, or a related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for working in a post secondary learning center; or equivalent education/training or experience. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the introductory natural sciences fields as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with supervising student employees and managing a post secondary learning center. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software. For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations. Demonstrated knowledge and experience using Excel, Word, Power Point, PC Mac software. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Experience working with a diverse student body population. Experience using a student tracking software. Experience using Banner SIS. Experience supervising student Salary Information: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
PBB, minimum $4481/month
