UH Hilo, College of Natural and Health Sciences, general funds, full-time, non-tenure-track, nine-month renewable-type appointment to begin approximately on August 2024, pending position clearance and availability of funds.

The successful candidate will be able to make an impact on a small but dynamic CS department, and also have the opportunity to contribute to a growing and expanding data science program

Duties

Primarily teach lower-division Computer Science (CS) and/or lower-division Data Science (DATA) courses. Examples include courses on basic data science skills, web technology, introductory programming, etc. Teach other CS and/or DATA core courses as necessary. Maintain and update course curricula and teaching/learning materials for courses as new technologies become available. Participate in ongoing course and curriculum development activities in the department as a whole. Advise students and maintain office hours. Carry out other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline from an accredited college or university. Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English. Experience in teaching (or serving as a teaching assistant for) CS and/or DATA courses. Experience with practical data science projects or data science research. Proficient in Python or R as well as at least one other object-oriented programming language.

Desirable Qualifications

Evidence of high-quality undergraduate instruction (e.g. course evaluations) in CS and/or DATA courses. Experience with improving their teaching based on student/faculty feedback. Data Science teaching experience. Industry or research experience related to computer science or data science. Previous experience teaching, studying, or doing research in a small college/university setting.

Pay Range

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
