UH Hilo, Student Affairs Division, Na Pua No‘eau Program, general funds, permanent, full time, to begin approximately May 2013, pending position clearance and availability of funding.


Install, maintain, repair computers, servers, printers, networking hardware and software as needed on Na Pua No‘eau’s statewide system. Register and maintain all licensing, warranty information on Na Pua No‘eau Center's hardware and software. Establish, maintain, and repair Na Pua No‘eau’s networks and access to Internet for all centers statewide. Troubleshoot, assess all conflicts and perform minor repairs to statewide Na Pua No‘eau’s systems. Also, evaluate major repairs and research proper establishments to perform repairs in accordance to warranties of Na Pua No‘eau’s equipment. Research & recommend development of new techniques and procedures for use of new software. Order various hardware and software that meet the needs for the Na Pua No‘eau’s Statewide Centers. Educate and train Na Pua No‘eau’s staff in the proper care and use of computer hardware and software. Conduct training workshops for Na Pua No‘eau’s staff on new and existing software. Develop, maintain, upgrade Na Pua No‘eau’s centralized database and develop and maintain cross platform access of multiple operating systems, devices, and computers. Develop procedures and maintain security, privacy and backups of Na Pua No‘eau’s systems and data. Establish, regulate, control and maintain Na Pua No‘eau’s statewide systems access to data storage & shared files. Establish, design, and update Na Pua No‘eau’s Center's publications, website, and other graphic media and materials. Establish links and protocol to website for all outreach sites. Respond to questions, inquiries, and problems regarding computers, networking and public information. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Information Technology or related field and 5 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for Multi-User System Admin., Network Admin., Security management, User Tech support, Database Management, information systems management, of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower payband in the University of Hawaiʻi broadband system; or equivalent education/training or experience. Considerable working knowledge of information systems management as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts, principles and methodology. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology, systems, hardware and software associated with information technology, systems management and data base management. Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems, use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes, and apply principles and practices to determine, evaluate, integrate, and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience that provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Demonstrated ability to manage databases through design, establishing procedures, identifying problems and resolving issues and performance tuning. Demonstrated ability in designing and implementing ethernet VLANS and experience with DHCP, DNS, VPN, and TCP/IP networking in a multi-protocol Lan environment. Demonstrated ability to design and support network configurations of network switches, routers, hubs, proxy-severs and firewalls and use of protocol analyzers and SNMP based new work management tools.

Desirable Qualifications

Web and server system administration. Experience as database manager using FoxPro and FileMaker database programs. Experience with graphics programs, design of visual media, video production, publications and web design.

Pay Range

PBB, $3,541/month minimum
