UH Hilo, Ka Haka ‘Ula O Ke‘elikōlani, general funds, permanent, full-time, to begin approximately May 2013, pending position clearance and availability of funding.


Provides fiscal support to the Director and Division Heads of the College. Receives system reports and responds to inquiries and appropriate action related to system fiscal and budget procedures. Advises staff and administrative personnel on fiscal matters. Ensures compliance of fiscal matters in accordance to federal grants as well as to state rules and regulations. Assists the Director in formulating the budget and planning or expenditure of funds. Prepares and audits periodic financial reports. Submits and controls account code establishment for the program and designs internal requisite forms as necessary. Monitors expenditures in accordance with approved budget plan and established federal and university fiscal policies and procedures. Maintains copies of and accounts for requisitions, journal vouchers, payment requests, and other fiscal transactions. Reconciles monthly program expenditures with university-generated reports. Compiles data and prepares drafts of quarterly and annual reports. Maintains and safeguards fiscal documents. Assists staff members in planning and budgeting for various program activities. Communicates and interacts entirely through Hawaiian with a broad range of Hawaiian speaking communities that are served by the College. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Accounting, or related field and 1 year of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for accounting or management administration; or equivalent education/training or experience. Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in business administration demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with business administration. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in business administration. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply work processing software. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Demonstrated knowledge of the Kumu Honua Mauli Ola education philosophy in daily practices and general work ethics in a Hawaiian language setting. Demonstrated native speaker or near-native speaker fluency in Hawaiian.

Desirable Qualifications

Knowledge of the utilization of education technology in communication and data collection review.

Pay Range

PBA, $2,904 per month minimum
