Our Mission
The Disability Services office at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo is dedicated to ensuring that all qualified students with disabilities receive equal opportunities in their education. This commitment is in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its 2008 amendments, as well as Section 504 regulations at 34 CFR Part 104, along with federal/state laws and University policies.
No student with a disability will face exclusion from participation in, denial of benefits from, or discrimination under any program or activity at UH Hilo. The Disability Services office provides essential leadership and support across the university, guiding, directing, assisting, and monitoring administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure fair and equitable treatment for all students with disabilities.

The mission of the Disability Services office is to offer services and support specifically tailored to disabled students at UH Hilo. These services include assessment reviews and the provision of reasonable accommodations aimed at enabling students with disabilities to succeed in the university environment with minimal restrictions. Beyond advocacy for disabled members of the campus community, the office also plays a vital role in advising on facility development, educational and awareness initiatives, and providing general support for diversity activities across UH Hilo.
Our Goals
- Assist UH Hilo to meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act [including 2008 amendments]) compliance standards for physical, program, services and activities access.
- Educate UH Hilo faculty, staff, students and the general public of topics relating to disabilities and/or ADA.
- Provide consistent, responsive, and excellent quality of service to students and faculty with disabilities participating in UH Hilo programs, services or activities, as well as to the general public.
