Gates Millennium Scholars

Deadline: Available August 1st of each year

Eligibility:

  • Must be an African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific American (Hawaiians or part-Hawaiians) or Hispanic citizens/permanent residents of the United States.
  • Are incoming freshmen that have applied to, be accepted into an accredited college or university at the time of the award.
  • Have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Have significant financial need as defined by the Federal need analysis formula.
  • Have demonstrated leadership ability through participation in community service, extracurricular activities or other activities.
  • Meet federal Pell Grant eligibility

Gilman International Scholarship - (Study Abroad)

Deadline: January 2017 application opens, March7, 2017 is the student deadline

Eligibility:

  • Must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant to be eligible
  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Applying to or has been accepted to a study abroad program or internship eligible for credit
  • Is studying abroad for at least 4 weeks in one country or two weeks for current community college students - and no more than one academic year. Programs going to more than one country are eligible if the student will be in one country for at least four consecutive weeks.
  • The Applicant is studying or interning abroad in any country except Cuba or a country on the U.S. Department of State’s current Travel Warning list. Students applying to Mexico may only apply for scholarships to support study in Mexican states where no advisory is in effect.
  • Gilman scholarship recipients can only receive the scholarship once.

Government Finance Officers Association Scholarships

Deadline: February 20

1) Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship

Deadline: February 10, 2017

Eligibility:

  • Currently a full-time student in an undergraduate or graduate accounting program preparing for a career in state and local government finance and expecting to be enrolled in the 2017 spring semester (including spring 2017 graduates. Undergraduate students must be in the process of completing at least their junior year by the time the scholarship is awarded
  • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada
  • Recommendation by your academic advisor or the accounting program chair.
  • Student has not been a past winner of a scholarship program administered by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada

Award: $7,000

2) George A. Nielsen Public Investor Scholarship

Eligibility:

  • Employed at least one year by a state or local government or special district with significant responsibilities for cash management or treasury activities, including a specific focus on the investing of available cash.
  • Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in public administration, finance, business administration, or related field before funds are awarded.
  • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
  • Recommendation by your employer.
  • Student has not been a past winner of a scholarship administered by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

3) Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship

Deadline: February 10, 2017

Eligibility:

  • Currently a full- or part-time upper-division undergraduate or graduate student in public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, political science, economics or business administration (with a specific focus on government or nonprofit management).
  • Belong to one of the following groups (as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau): Black or African American, American Indian or Alaskan native, Asian, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino.
  • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
  • Recommendation by student's academic advisor, department chair (undergraduate students), or dean of the graduate program (graduate students).
  • Student has not been a past winner of a scholarship administered by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

Award: $7,000
