At UH Hilo, we draw on our shared island history of resilience and innovation to enhance our educational and research capacity, addressing the complex challenges of our region and fostering a sustainable future for Hawaiʻi. As a unique living laboratory of nature and culture, our ʻāina-based and community-based education fosters deep connections between students, faculty, staff, community, and the natural world. This approach strengthens our sense of community and equips learners with the skills and mindsets needed to tackle real-world issues. By providing high-impact educational practices, such as undergraduate research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and service learning, we improve student retention and success while inspiring students to make a meaningful difference in the world.
