Imua Fitness Classes

    Campus Recreation Department provides numerous opportunities for patrons to meet their fitness goals. Qualified staff and resources are available for group and personal instruction in a wide variety of classes such as Zumba, Yoga, Boot Camp, Total Body Conditioning and Spin. Non-credit activities are also available to provide educational experiences for a wide variety of interests. The activities offered include Dance, Martial Arts, and Self-Defense. All Imua classes are free to members.

    UH Hilo Campus Recreation is apart of Rec Movement. These are virtual fitness classes offered by UH Hilo and over 150 other colleges Campus Recreation Departments across the country. Sign into the Recreation's sign-up page to get more information.

    Fitness Class Descriptions (Fall 2021 - In Person and Virtual Fitness Classes (August 30th - December 10th)

    Boot Camp with Camryn (Virtual):

    (Note: This class will be offered virtual only)

    Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
    1:00p.m. - 2:00p.m.

    Are you looking for a total body workout and tired of doing the same routine? Well, this class is for you! This class integrates a variety of different exercises such as burpees, squats, lundges, overhead press, push-ups, etc. push-ups, bosu ball, free weights and kettlebell workout.

    Gentle Yoga with Gregory (In Person and Virtual):

    (Note: This class will be offered "in person" and Virtual. If you are planning on attending this class "in person" please meet inside of aerobics room 2!)

    Tuesdays and Thursdays
    5:00p.m. - 6:00p.m.

    This class is based on Ruesi Datton. Ruesi Datton is an ancient self care system developed by mediators in Thailand. It consists of a collection of gentle movements and postures similar to Qi Gong and Yoga Asana, in addition to self-massage techniques. The intentions of the practice is to bring the subtle energy body into balance with the physical body. On the surface, Ruesi Datton is a great self-diagnostic routine and is a great complement to a more strenous work-out regiment. Expect reptitive mobility and range of motion movements and to leave the practice feeling relaxed.

    Vinyasa Flow Yoga with Anya (In Person and Virtual):

    The practice of yoga can help improve your flexiblity, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and hormonal systems. Yoga can also brings stability and clarity to your mind, body and soul. In this class you will learn proper alignment and breathing techniques as well as postures that can enhance your mobility.

    Zumba® (Level 2) with Gavin (In person)

    Fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program. You will love this exhilarating hour of caloric-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements combined with core strengthening exercises.

    Zumba (Level 1) with Gavin (Virtual)

    Tuesdays and Thursdays
    6:00p.m. - 7:00p.m.

    Fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program. You will love this exhilarating hour of caloric-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements combined with core strengthening exercises. Zumba toning sticks may also be used and taught in this class. This class is also open to beginners!

    This class is for anyone who is looking to learn basic stretches that can help with their overall health and also optimize their flexiblity, endurance and stamina.
