New Student Programs has redeveloped the way in which we offer our services to new students. Below you'll find job descriptions for all of the new opportunities available to work for NSP. Please look through the position descriptions and qualifications and find the right fit for you. Once you do, follow the application process for that particular position and we'll contact you to schedule an interview. If you have any questions about any of the positions or the process, please let us know.

We now have the following positions available for enthusiastic, excited, students who want to help build a foundation for student success by supporting all of our Students!

Student Ambassador

Title: UH Hilo Student Ambassador

Status: Closed

Application Process:

Responsibilities:

Over the Summer:

  • Connect and communicate with individuals from assigned group of new admitted students welcoming them to UH Hilo and answering any questions they may have about their transition.

During Orientation:

  • Organize, Lead, and Support your assigned group of new students, throughout Orientation week
  • Be a knowledgeable friendly resource for all students and families during Orientation
  • Welcome and engage students from the moment they step onto campus
  • Support the logistics and operation of Orientation Week. This includes setup and take down.

During the Academic Year:

  • Work 2 hours per week at the NSP University Concierge.
  • The University Concierge is the Campus Information and Visitor Services desk and serves as a single location for current students/faculty/staff as well as Campus Visitors to ask questions and get information about UH Hilo.
  • Duties include answering phones, greeting visitors, answering questions about campus, and others as assigned.

  • Maintain connections with assigned group of new students

  • Attempt to meet with each student once per semester to check in and offer any support needed to ensure a successful transition to UH Hilo.

  • Participate as an active member on one of the two NSP teams to develop initiatives and services that support the successful transition of First Time First Year Students and new Transfer Students. (see application for team descriptions)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a full time UH Hilo student throughout the 2016-2017 academic year and able to commit a full academic year of work to NSP (2017-2018)
  • Must have completed at least one semester at UH Hilo by June 2017
  • Have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Have a clear judicial record
  • Must be open for volunteer hours outside the required and mandatory dates listed below

Program Coordinator

Title: Program Coordinator

Application Process:

Responsibilities:

  • Create, expand, and develop student support services & programs designed to increase the retention and success of UH Hilo students.
  • Help to organize and coordinate Fall and Spring Orientation programs focused on Connecting Students, Promoting Academic Success, and Developing our UH Hilo ╩╗ohana. With specific focus to your assigned team of students
  • Assist the Interim Director with training and management of the Student Ambassadors
  • Help to Lead the Team of Student Ambassadors
  • Support other New Student Programs initiatives such as Haumana Hou Lounge, Weekly Store Shuttles, and other new initiatives developed by NSP.
  • Provide general office support including: answering phones, checking and responding to emails, assisting walk-in students, processing requisitions and purchase orders
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have completed at least one year ( 2 semesters) at UH Hilo by June 2017 and able to commit a full academic year of work to NSP(2017-2018)
  • Must be a full time UH Hilo student
  • Must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher throughout the employment period
  • Must have a clear judicial record
  • There may be events the staff will be asked to attend as volunteers.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience leading groups
  • Experience planning events and collaborating with campus partners to achieve success
  • Able to complete work in an accurate and timely manner with autonomy
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Organized and detail oriented. Experience in staffing schedules and leading a team.
  • Motivated, energetic, and able to maintain a positive attitude, especially in stressful situations
  • Have a valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle to assist with picking up items such as program supplies
