Athletics Director candidate: Patrick Guillen

Location: UCB Room 127

You are cordially invited to attend a reception for the candidates for the Athletics Director position at UH Hilo. Receptions are scheduled for Joshua Doody, director of athletics, Notre Dame de Namur University, on Friday, June 19, and Patrick Guillen, former director of athletics, California State University – Dominguez Hills, on Tuesday, June 23. Both events will be held at 4 p.m. in UCB 127.

The candidates will each make a short presentation on their vision for UH Hilo athletics, and then will field questions from the audience.

Light refreshments will be served.

Patrick Guillen is the former Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at California State University, Dominguez Hills in Carson, CA. Under his leadership, their men’s soccer team won the national championship in 2000 and 2008, the women’s soccer team was the 2009 national runner-up, the men’s basketball team was conference champion in 2011, the women’s basketball team was conference champion in 2009, the softball team was conference champions in 2005 and 2012, and the women’s track & field 4 x 100 team won the national championship in 2012. At the same time, the overall cumulative team GPA for the 11 sports programs rose from a 2.24 in 2004 to a 2.91 in 2013. Guillen was responsible for increasing the Athletic Department’s endowment from $17,000 in 2005 to nearly $600,000 in 2013. He also raised $900,000 for major facility enhancements to the gymnasium, baseball, and softball fields. He has served as Tournament Director and hosted NCAA West Regional Championship events in men’s soccer, baseball, and softball. Guillen received his BBA in Management and Marketing from Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, CA. Prior to joining CSU Dominguez Hills, he served as the Sports Information Director at Vanguard University and the Far West Region Sports Information Director for the NAIA.
