KES Adapted Indigenous Sports Day Workshop

Location: UH All Purpose Soccer Field

ATTENTION all kinesiology students, martial artist, athletes, dancers, and sports enthusiasts! The Kinesiology & Exercise Science Department along with the Gongfuball Collegiate Society RISO, for the 1st time ever, is calling all University of Hilo students together to learn the sports program that is uniting athletes, of all calibers, into one organized sport! A sports experience like no other! The KES Adapted/Indigenous Sports Day Workshop will feature the Gongfuball sports program, which blends the strategies, values, and skill sets of indigenous games. With the excitement, athleticism, and team work of contemporary sports; such as flag football, soccer, ultimate, and more!

The Gongfuball Sports program is endorsed by high schools, intermediate schools across the Big Island, Recreation Directors of Hawaii County Parks & Recreation, various youth organizations, and the University of Hilo. Along with the excitement of the sport this event will provide participants will several educational opportunities that you won't want to miss!

Great for students who plan to work with youth and or active adults in physical education, recreation, or out-of-school programs, learn from the Gongfuball Sports Program Founder Steven Martin how to create an successful sports/recreational program according to population by age, athletic abilities, education goal, socio-economics, and field/playing conditions.

Learn about the developing opportunities for internships through the UH Applied Learning Experiences (ALEX), and the jobs being created in the community through the Gongfuball sports program.
