Matsuda endowment recognized at halftime; scholarship to benefit men’s basketball players

New endowed scholarship to benefit UH Hilo men’s basketball players was recognized at halftime of Vulcans basketball game Saturday.

The establishment of the Paul Y. Matsuda Endowed Scholarship, to benefit the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo men’s basketball program, was recognized during halftime of a Vulcan game at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo on Saturday.

A group of supporters who were instrumental in establishing the endowment in their friend’s honor presented the ceremonial big check to UH Hilo athletic director Patrick Guillen. More than $36,000 has been contributed to date to the scholarship fund, which will help UH Hilo men’s basketball players with funds for tuition, books, fees and other costs related to attendance.

Nearly 50 people have donated to the endowment to date.
