UH Hilo’s Neal Nagao receives UH President’s Award for Excellence in Building and Grounds Maintenance

University of Hawai‘i President David Lassner today named Neal Nagao, a maintenance supervisor at the UH Hilo campus, as the recipient of the UH President’s Award for Excellence in Building and Grounds Maintenance.

President’s remarks at today’s UH Board of Regents meeting at UH Hilo:

The President’s Award for Excellence in Building and Grounds Maintenance is given to an individual who has exhibited sustained superior performance in a maintenance, landscaping, custodial or trucking position.

The winner receives a $1,000 award and a certificate of recognition.

The 2015 awardee is Mr. Neal Nagao, who works as a maintenance supervisor right here at the UH Hilo campus.

Mr. Nagao has worked for the university for over 27 years. He began as UH Hilo’s only electrician and was then promoted to UH Hilo’s only maintenance supervisor.

His peers and supervisors describe Mr. Nagao as having a positive attitude and excellent customer service skills. He is praised for keeping UH Hilo as one of the best maintained campuses while working with limited resources and mentoring a great team.
