For Immediate Release
Pride Hilo, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and intersex (LGBTIQ) registered independent student organization of the University of Hawaii at Hilo and Hawai`i Community College, is hosting an art benefit to raise funds for the first scholarship for outstanding LGBTIQ student leaders, the “Pride Legacy Scholarship." This will be the first-ever scholarship recognizing such students in the University of Hawai`i System.
The art benefit will be held in the upstairs gallery of Restaurant Kaikodo on April 21 from 7pm to 10pm. There will be art pieces from several renowned local professional artists as well as juried selections from student artists. The title of the benefit is “Through Our Eyes," which exemplifies the visions and experiences of LGBTIQ individuals and supporters.
Pride Hilo, formerly known as UH Hilo GLO, continues to provide a nurturing supportive environment for LGBTIQ people and straight allies. This scholarship is the legacy of the current and former Pride Hilo members to build and encourage strong and educated LGBTIQ leaders.
The event is funded by a grant from the Student Equity, Excellence and Diversity fund of the University of Hawai`i. Generous support for the “Pride Legacy Scholarship” has also been provided by Outspoken Hawai`i.
