For Immediate Release

The Office of Mauna Kea Management (OMKM), University of Hawaii at Hilo, recently launched a new electronic newsletter, Malama Mauna Kea (Caring for Mauna Kea).

“Many people today prefer receiving their information via electronic means,” stated OMKM Director Bill Stormont. “The e-newsletter is quick, efficient and resource friendly. It represents our newest endeavor to share, locally and globally, efforts we are making to ensure that Mauna Kea’s precious resources and attributes are adequately and properly protected and cared for.”

OMKM will continue to publish its printed newsletter, although probably less frequently, Stormont explained, as the new e-newsletter will now allow OMKM to update information regarding Mauna Kea on a more timely basis.

OMKM is the entity within the University of Hawai‘i charged with overseeing the summit lands atop Mauna Kea. It is responsible for oversight of day-to-day activities within the Mauna Kea Science Reserve and to ensure compliance with the 2000 UH Mauna Kea Master Plan.

“An important part of our mission involves sharing what we do, how we do it, and why we do it with as many people as possible. This new email newsletter will help tremendously in that regard,” Stormont noted.
