Celebrate International Education Week with UH Hilo Nov. 17-21

The public is invited to join the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo to celebrate International Education Week November 17-21 on campus.

“UH Hilo’s participation in International Education Week highlights our continued commitment to preparing students for a globally connected future,” noted Carolina Lam, director of UH Hilo Global Education and Exchange. “This celebration underscores how international learning enriches every discipline and strengthens our island’s connection to the world.”

Campus events include:

Daily (November 17-21):
• Book Display of International Authors, Mookini Library
• Language & Culture Exchange/Peace Corps Tabling, Campus Center Dining Room, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
• International Lunch Menu, Campus Center Dining Room, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Monday, November 17:
• Chinese, Japanese Brush Writing Workshop, Student Services Center, Room W-201, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Experience the art, culture, and calm of Chinese and Japanese brush writing. Hosted by Art Professor Jean Ippolito.

Tuesday, November 18:
• Zentangle & Mindfulness Workshop, Student Services Center, Room W-201, 2-3 p.m. Zentangle is an easy-to-learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Hosted by Val Odachi, certified Zentangle instructor. Registration required at: forms.gle/vKuwXhYo4fBCLGug8.

Wednesday, November 19:
• Global Vulcan Student Panel, Wentworth Hall, Room 9, 2-3 p.m. Hear diverse perspectives and global stories from students sharing their experiences from around the world.

Thursday, November 20:
• Global Trivia Night, Campus Center Plaza, 5:30 – 7 p.m. A lively challenge celebrating global education, culture, and community.

Friday, November 21:
• Taste of the World, Campus Center Plaza, 6-8 p.m. Enjoy performances by UH Hilo’s Jazz Orchestra and Contemporary Dance Class, connect with community partners, and sample delicious international cuisine at the culminating celebration of International Education Week.

In addition, an International Education Week Photo Contest for students will be held, with voting beginning on November 17. Community members may cast their vote by visiting Instagram @uhhglobe or Facebook @uhhglobe.

International Education Week is an annual event jointly sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.
