UH Hilo students awarded Summer 2019 Gilman scholarship

Two University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo students are recipients of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad during summer 2019.
Kara Spaulding, a Performing and Fine Arts major, will be spending the summer in France, Belgium and Italy starting in June. She was awarded a $4,500 scholarship to participate in the ESSCA: Escole of Management program in France and Belgium. She will also participate in the New York Film Academy’s Acting for Film in Florence, Italy.
Xandria Akau, a Business Administration major, received a $2,000 award for her participation in ESSCA: Escole of Management program in Paris, France, where she will learn about International Luxury Brand Marketing and International Business Management. Akau is a Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi Campus graduate and plans to blog about her experience to encourage other students to study abroad.
The Gilman Scholarship program supports undergraduate students with financial need and who are underrepresented in education abroad.
