The College of Continuing Education and Community Service (CCECS) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo hosts an “Introduction to Permaculture Design” workshop on Saturday, January 30, and Sunday, January 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in UH Hilo’s Kanakaʻole Hall, Room 111. Cost is $95.
Instructor Zach Mermel will teach the basics of permaculture, a design discipline that mimics nature's patterns to create healthy, resilient human habitats. Experiential learning exercises, including plant propagation, garden bed creation, and nature-based awareness, will be complemented by slide presentations and collaborative discussions. The course will culminate in a mini design project.
