For Immediate Release
The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo invites all Hawaiʻi Island middle and high schools to register for the 2016 Hawaiʻi Island Regional Science Olympiad Tournament scheduled for Saturday, January 16, 2016 on the UH Hilo campus. The top teams from the Regional competition will qualify for the State tournament held on Oʻahu in March 2016.
Science Olympiad tournaments encourage teamwork while assessing knowledge and abilities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The 2016 Regional competition will include a broad range of events that test knowledge and understanding in the natural sciences such as invasive species, meteorology, chemistry, astronomy, and oceanography. Other tournament events include Road Scholar, Geologic Mapping, Bridge Building, Elastic Launched Glider, and a new event, “Game On,” where participants have 50 minutes to build a video game based around a theme. Visit hsso.org for the full list of 2016 events.
Resources and training for new coaches are available.
