For Immediate Release
The Indian Ink Theatre Company’s production “Guru of Chai” is coming
to the University of Hawai’i at Hilo’s Performing Arts Center (PAC) for one night only on Saturday, October 18th at 7:30 p.m.
The contradictions of modern India with its iPhones and ancient gods
come alive in this outrageously funny and heartbreakingly beautiful romantic
thriller. Kutisar is the lord of his chai stand in Bangalore Train Station, where
he dispenses his soulful beverage to thirsty travelers. But he unexpectedly finds
himself at odds with his conscience and the Hindu Gods, who challenge him with
solving the interwoven mysteries of true love, tragedy and joy as he discovers that
answers to the biggest questions can be found in the most humble circumstances.
A remarkable and beautiful piece of theatre, enhanced by music, song,
magic and shadow puppetry, “Guru of Chai,” is a product of the extraordinary
partnership of Justin Lewis (writer) and Jacob Rajan (writer/actor). For more
than two decades, they have created a series of remarkable theatre productions
of intimate scale that remind their audiences of the simple truths of life.
