NHERC to host Filipino Heritage Talk

The University of Hawai’i at Hilo’s North Hawai’i Education and Research Center (NHERC) will mark Filipino-American Heritage Month with a presentation by Domingo Los Banos on Filipino-American troops in World War II on Thursday, October 16. His talk will follow a 5:30 p.m. screening of Stephanie Castillo’s documentary “An Untold Triumph: the Story of the 1st and 2nd Filipino Infantry Regiments, U.S. Army.” Both events are free and open to the public.
Los Banos was born on Kauai to first generation Filipino immigrants and has distinguished himself as a teacher, coach, principal and school superintendent
in Hawai’i. He attended the University of Hawai’i prior to enlisting in the U.S.
Army in 1944. Domingo served in the 1st Filipino Infantry Regiment and since
completing his tour of duty has dedicated himself to spreading a message of
tolerance and understanding among people of all nations.
