For Immediate Release
The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Sustainability Committee invites the public to a presentation on the future of clean energy by Hawai‘i Electric Light Company on Tuesday, October 7, 6 p.m., in UCB Room 100. “A Clean Energy Future for Hawaiʻi Island” will be presented by Jay Ignacio, president of HELCO.
Under Hawaiʻi law, the renewable portfolio standard calls for 40% of electricity sales to be from renewable resources by 2030. HELCO aims to exceed this target, adding as much renewable energy as possible that is affordable, safe and reliable. Since 2008, the company has doubled the percentage of electricity supplied from renewable resources across O`ahu, Maui County and Hawaiʻi Island.
