O`ahu Hawaiian choral group to perform in Hilo

Kawaiolaonapukanileo, a 16-voice choral group from O`ahu, led by Artistic Director Nola A. Nahulu, will perform on Sunday, April 28 at the Haili Congregational Church at 5:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The first half of the program is dedicated to songs written by and for Queen Lili`uokalani. The second half will include pieces performed at past song competitions of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs. Puanani Higgins and students of the University of Hawai`i at Hilo's Ka Haka `Ula O Ke`elikolani College of Hawaiian Language will perform with Kawaiolaonapukanileo.
This event is the last of a month-long series of events, entitled E Nana I Ke Kumu. It is jointly sponsored by the UH Hilo Student Association, the Hawaiian Leadership Development Program, Title III Native Hawaiian Serving Institute, and Ka Haka `Ula O Ke`elikolani College of Hawaiian Language, with assistance from Haili Congregational Church and Na Leo Mele O Kamehameha No Hilo.
