For Immediate Release
The 6th annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” walk will be held on Wednesday, October 16, beginning at 11 a.m. on the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilocampus. The public, including men, women and children, is invited to participate in the event to protest rape, sexual assault and gender violence.
“Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” asks men to literally walk one mile in women’s high heeled shoes to raise awareness about the serious causes, effects and remediation to sexualized violence. High heels in various sizes will be available to participants on a first-come, first-served basis. However, the high heeled shoes are not mandatory and any shoe may be worn.
Registration is from 10:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. on the Campus Center Plaza, followed by the keynote address from Hawaiʻi County Prosecuting Attorney Mitch Roth. The walk will commence at the conclusion of Roth’s remarks.
The event is sponsored by the UH Hilo Men of Strength.
