PIPES symposium wraps up 2012 session

The University of Hawai╩╗i at Hilo Pacific Islands Programs for Exploring Science (PIPES) Summer Internship Program concludes its 2012 session with the annual PIPES Student Symposium on Thursday, August 9 from 8-4:30 p.m., and on Friday, August 10, from 9- 3 p.m. in the UniversityÔÇÖs Science and Technology Building main lecture auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.

PIPES provides undergraduate students of Native Hawaiian ancestry, other kama`aina, under-represented minorities, and first-generation college students the opportunity to work in paid summer environmental internships statewide.

This year 31 students participated in project-based internships with UH faculty, partner agencies and programs and took part in a variety of conservation science and resource management-themed projects. The 2012 interns will present their work and discuss their experiences at the symposium.
