For Immediate Release

Beginning Spring 2012, the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Bachelor of Business Administration program will be available to students in West Hawaiʻi. The degree program is fully accredited by AACSB International, and classes will be taught by UH Hilo College of Business and Economics faculty members via videoconferencing technology. The application deadline for classes is December 1 for the Spring 2012 cohort. There will be another cohort offered in Fall 2012.

“The program allows students who have taken the Liberal Arts/Associate in Arts with a Business Emphasis program offered by Hawaiʻi Community College to enter directly into the BBA program and complete the BBA degree in five semesters of classes,” explained Dr. Hank Hennessey, interim dean of CoBE.

Students with an Associate in Arts degree from any regionally-accredited community college can also enter the BBA program by taking the program prerequisite courses from the Hawaiʻi Community College in West Hawaiʻi, or online from other units of the UH System.

“Each semester, CoBE will make three or four classes available in West Hawaiʻi using videoconferencing technology,” Hennessey said. “Students in West Hawaiʻi will become part of a regular class held in Hilo, participating in class discussions and asking questions through state-of-the-art High Definition videoconferencing. West Hawaiʻi students will be counted as regular UH Hilo students, and will register for the same classes as Hilo students. The one exception is that West Hawaiʻi students will move through the BBA program as a cohort, all taking the same classes each semester.”
