For Immediate Release

A team of University of Hawai╩╗i at Hilo students faced off against a global field of high school, college and university-level teams at the 2011 Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) International Competition.
The UH Hilo squad composed of Sebastian Baca, Liz Clemens, Chad Converse, Jon Marusek, and Shane Emerson is the first and only team in the UH system, and hopes to inspire other students to participate in similar events and competitions.

Their participation was made possible by generous funding and support from the UH Hilo Campus Center Fee Board, Student Life Center, Engineering Partners of Hilo, the Infra-Red Telescope Facility (IRTF) and donations from family members. The team finished 15th out of 26 teams in the event hosted by the Neutral Buoyancy Lab at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas June 16-18, 2011.
