Vulcan volleyball improved to 6-2 after a three set sweep of the Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts Monday night in the UH Hilo Gymnasium. After being knotted up early, the Vulcans pulled away from the Argonauts in each set to finish with the scores 25-14, 25-17, and 25-15. This is the fourth straight win and sweep for the Vulcans, extending back to a Sept. 1 match against San Francisco State in the D2 West Region Showcase. “We just stay focused. We’re all together,” said senior middle Kiley Davis. “The team chemistry is there.”

The Vulcans are off to their best start in seven years before beginning a four game road trip next week against Azusa Pacific. How can the Vulcans return home winning 10-2? “Lots of effort. Lots of teamwork. Staying together through thick and thin,” said junior Armani Moultrie. “We always keep each other accountable.” Senior libero Mina Grant told Ke Kalahea, “We’re not taking anyone lightly. We’re taking care of business.”

The Vulcans are currently ranked third in the PacWest standings after winning the previous two games at home. “It feels awesome to have the support from the community; they’re really cheering for us. This is a whole new team,” Grant told Ke Kalahea. The Vulcans have four PacWest matches before they return to UH Hilo on Sept. 28 to face off against the Academy of Art.
