Ke Kalahea was founded in the 70s under the name ‘UH Hilo News.’ This month’s Time Capsule is pulled from an issue published on Wednesday, January 26, 1977.
The Campus Center Cafeteria (now “Campus Center Dining Room” or “Sodexo”) used to be a lot cheaper!
Campus Center is the entity responsible for events like “Vulcan ‘Ohana Welcome Week” and collecting student fees for organizations like UHHSA, SAC, URH, and yours truly. In 1977, it was expanding to include “pool tables, a color TV, ping-pong, tape recorders, and a crafts area,” many features still available in Lava Landing.
