UH Hilo bids farewell to athletes graduating this semester.

Seniors- 15 total

Volleyball

The team finished on senior night, Nov 18 with a five set win against home state rivals Hawaii Pacific. The Vulcans end their first season under new head coach Gene Kreiger with a disappointing 9-18 record, after a 10 match losing streak in the second half of the season.

Seniors include:

#14 Trixie Croad:
Trixie played four seasons for the Vulcans as well as three seasons for Vulcan Tennis. She had a total of 300 digs with a career high of 22 at BYUH last year. She is graduating this fall with a bachelor's in Kinesiology and in Sociology. And plans to pursue more study in health promotion.

#5 Siera Green:
Siera played three seasons for the Vulcans, transferring from Snow College, Utah in 2015. She had a career total of 415 kills and 254 digs, leading the team in kills this season. She is graduating this fall with a bachelor’s in Administration of Justice and is planning a career in probations or client services.

#2 Taylor Madrid:
Taylor has played two seasons for the Vulcans, transferring from Reedley College, Calif. In 2016. She is graduating this fall with a bachelor’s in Kinesiology and wants to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy.

Men’s Soccer

The team finished on senior day, Nov 4, with a dramatic 3-2 win over Chaminade. After confrontations during the first half sending captain and senior Jake Sagami off with a red card, the Vulcans managed to go up 2-0, despite playing with one less. In the second half, the Silverswords managed to claw back to 2-2, but conceded a penalty after a hand-ball in the 18 yard box with just 30 seconds left on the clock, giving the Vulcans their second win of the season. They finished with a 2-14 record, both wins coming in the last week of the season.

#5 Evan Bacani:
Evan played all four years for the Vulcans, and was a staple figure in all four seasons as a forward. He scored against Fresno Pacific and had a total of 7 shots on goal for the season. Evan is graduating with a bachelor's in Communication.

#1 Cassidy Dixon:
Cassidy played all four years for the Vulcans as a goalkeeper, he had his career best match against Dominican, saving a penalty and earning PacWest Defender of the Week honors. He is majoring in Kinesiology and is considering a career in physical therapy.

#11 Jake Sagami:
Jake played all four years for the Vulcans, skipping the 2015 season. He captained the Vulcans this season and last season as a defender. Jake played in every game this season, averaging 81 minutes a game. Jake already has his bachelor’s in biology and is currently studying kinesiology at UH Hilo.

#17 Kyran Johal:
Kyran played two seasons for the Vulcans, transferring from Santa Barbara Junior College in 2016. Kyran hails from Coventry, England before coming to the United States to play. He played forward for the Vulcans, playing in 8 games his junior year. Kyran will graduate with a bachelor's in Communication.

#18 Joshua Jasper:
Joshua played three years for the Vulcans, transferring from Southern Indiana in 2014, hailing originally from Arizona. As a goalkeeper, Joshua playing four games this season and saved four shots on goal. Joshua will graduate with a double major in Psychology and Kinesiology.

Women’s Soccer

The Vulcans celebrated their last game and senior day on Nov 4 with a 2-1 win over Chaminade. After a promising first half of the season, and a season high of 6th place in the PacWest standings in mid season, the Vulcans dropped to finished 11th in the PacWest with a record of 7-9-1, one spot lower than last year’s finish.

Seniors include

#2 Kayela Santiago:
Kayela played all four seasons for the Vulcans, originally coming from Maui before this. Kayela played all 17 matches as a forward for the Vulcans this season, averaging 72 minutes per game, scoring one goal with a total of six attempts on target. Kayela is majoring in Kinesiology and wants to pursue a career in occupational therapy.

#1 Jenna Hufford:
Jenna played 5 years for the Vulcans, redshirting in 2015 for medical reasons. Hufford was the starting goalkeeper at UH Hilo, this season playing an average of 88 minutes per game, with a total of 73 saves this season. Jenna earned PacWest Player of the Week and Defender of the Week honors several times throughout her career. Jenna will graduate with a double major in Communication and Sociology this fall.

#7 Milana Wolsleben:
Milana played two seasons for the Vulcans, transferring from Sierra Community College, Calif. in 2016. Milana averaged the full 90 minutes for every game this season as a midfielder. Milana will graduate with a bachelor’s in Business Administration.

#14 Astrid Perez:
Astrid played two seasons for the Vulcans, transferring from College of the Canyons, Calif. in 2016. Astrid played 643 minutes over 16 matches this season as a midfielder. Astrid is majoring in Mathematics and wants to pursue a career in mechanical engineering.

#15 Sophie Satterlee:
Sophie played two seasons for the Vulcans, transferring from Sierra Community College, Calif. in 2016. Sophie played every minute possible this season as a defender for the Vulcans. Sophie is a pre-nursing major and hopes to go on to nursing school.

#17 Kiani Shirai:
Kiani, a Hilo local, played both soccer and basketball for UH Hilo, playing two seasons of each. Kiani played 244 minutes over 14 games this season as a defender. She will graduate with a bachelor's in Biology and is considering a career as a pediatrician.

Cross Country

This season the Vulcans ran a total of six races, competing against both PacWest teams and some Division 1 teams. The Vulcans struggled for numbers this year, barely ending up with the minimum five runners, and were down to four runners in two races because of injuries.

Anna Baker Mikkelson:
Anna ran all four seasons for the Vulcans, hailing originally from Bagsvaerd, Denmark. This season Anna placed 6th three times, 10th and in the biggest of the six events placed 49th and 69th. Anna was consistently the top runner for the Vulcans throughout her career. Anna will graduate with a degree in Marine Science.
