Child Care Women's Center

Informational flyer about the Child Care Survey Affordable and accessible childcare is a pressing issue for students and community members with children. We are looking for testimonies of, feedback on, and support for the proposed Child Care Center that is to be built on the UH Hilo Campus (on the corner of Lanikaula and Kapiolani) and are now in the beginning stages of advocacy for both the building of this Center as well as full time and part time child care services to go along with it.

The action memo to build the Child Care Center is going to President Hensel at the end of the month (October) and the proposal for this Child Care Center will be submitted to the Board of Regents (BOR) Institutional Success Committee for review on November 6th. If the committee passes the proposal, it will be on the Board of Regents (BOR) Agenda on November 20, and then (if successfully passed there) it will be submitted to the state legislature for approval sometime in January 2026

This is an opportunity for us to help the families and keiki of our community thrive and our student parents and caretakers of children to be successful in the pursuit of their education.

There is currently a survey circulating to gauge student and community feedback on this issue. Students who do not have children but are willing to provide support for this issue are also more than welcome to submit a response or testimony.
