Editor's Note (October 2024)

Aloha mai kākou,

With most midterms, Halloween, and Election Day in our rearview mirrors, it’s time to catch a quick breather, enjoy Veteran’s Day, and start studying for finals. For those of you graduating, it’s time to start locking in with graduate schools and gathering your caps, gowns and other graduation attire.

We want to welcome our new graphic designers Kaia McGerity and Caleilah-Estelle Ah Yee, our new webmaster/social media manager Aamaya Guzman, as well as our new staff writer Tabitha Pacheco to the team. Some of our new members have kicked off their start with features in this month’s newspaper. You can check out Kaia’s graphics on the October Calendar at pg. 4, Caleilah’s media review “Starlei Studios Presents: Jordan Peele’s Get Out” at pg. 30, and Tabitha’s “Sports in the Spotlight” article at pg. 25. We hope that our loyal Ke Kalahea readers will offer them all a warm welcome.

For those reaching out about the remaining positions of Photographer, Layout Editor, and Layout Designer, I would like to apologize for the delay in responses on my part as I was out of the office last week for personal reasons. We are getting to applications and through interviews as fast as possible, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.

I would also like to acknowledge that I was unable to set up the interviews in time for Pacific Perspective this month, but the column will be back next month.

We’d like to thank everyone who participated in our Newspaper Painting Event on Thursday, November 7. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves and had a great time creating newspaper covers. Mahalo nui loa for sharing space with us! See below for more events coming up.

Breaking News Breakfast:
Tuesday, November 12 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

As always, feel free to reach out with any contributing stories you would like to share. Please send them to us at uhhkk@hawaii.edu. Additionally, if you have any questions or concerns about the newspaper or things going on around campus, you can find us at our office (Campus Center 202-A) or via email.

Mahalo nui,
