Have you ever wondered about student discounts, but weren’t sure where to look? Have you ever been in a finance crunch and wanted to alleviate some of that stress? If you have, look no further.

Statistically speaking, 54% of bachelor’s degree students during the 2020-2021 academic year graduated with student loan debt. The average balance of this debt was $29,100 (College Board).

According to Federal Student Aid, during the first half of the 2023 school year, student loan debt in the U.S. was over $1.77 trillion. More than 92% of that was federal student loan debt.

With that being said, it’s important for college students to be aware of any ways they can alleviate financial stress; student discounts being one of them.

This article will dive into the world of student discounts available to UH Hilo students. Specifically, Ke Kalahea will be focusing on music streaming, TV streaming, and delivery sites that offer said discounts.

Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime offers a student discount of $7.49/month while the normal price is $14.99/month. Additionally, they are offering a 6-month free trial of Amazon Prime students (Amazon.com).

All you have to do is upload a photo of your student ID and enter your school name.

This discount includes Amazon Prime special delivery, Amazon Prime music, Prime video, Prime gaming, Prime reading, textbook rentals and discounted textbooks, and of course exclusive Prime member discounts and deals on items purchased from the site.

This discount also includes a one-month free trial of ‘course hero’.

Whether you are ordering textbooks, listening to audiobooks, or ordering items to set up your dorms; Amazon prime could be very beneficial to you.

Spotify + Hulu

Another student discount is Spotify Premium Student with Hulu (Spotify.com).

Spotify is also offering a discounted price of $5.99/month as well as a one-month free trial. Not only will you have access to music, but also movies and TV shows with Hulu.

Although this access to Hulu does come with ads, it’s at no extra cost to students.

This membership lasts up to four years, and can be canceled at any time. All you need to do is provide proof of enrollment or log-in to UH Hilo’s student portal via Spotify. Additionally, every 12 months students will need to verify their enrollment.

Peacock

Peacock TV is offering a special right now for students. Usually it’s $5.99/month, but if you sign up now it’s only $1.99/month for 12-months.

This subscription can be canceled at any time.

Peacock includes movies, TV shows, and even live sports. Additionally, some live TV channels are also available on Peacock (Peacock.com).

The steps to get access to this discount are fairly simple. You just need to verify your information with SheerID via Peacock, create an account, and you can start watching!

YouTube Premium

YouTube Premium at $6.99/month comes with ad-free videos, music, and movies. The regular price for YouTube premium is $13.99/month, without the student discount. YouTube also gives you the option to download content for offline viewing (YouTube.com).
