Ke Kalahea

UH Hilo’s student run newspaper has the following open positions:

Associate Editor
Responsible for assisting the editor-in-chief in publishing the newspaper; edits all content for the newspaper; supervises assignments with staff writers; writes editorials and stories.

Layout Designer
Responsible for assisting the layout editor in laying out the content of the issue.

Photo Editor
Edits all photography content for the newspaper; upervises photography assignments with staff writers.

Photographer
Takes and edit photos for staff writer’s stories, as well as creates photo stories.

Staff Writer
Responsible for writing articles for the newspaper.

Graphic Designer
Responsible for designing graphics for the content of the newspaper.

Distribution Director
Responsible for distribution of the newspaper.

Webmaster
Responsible for posting all the content of the newspaper on the Ke Kalahea websites; manages websites.

Social Media Manager
Responsible for publishing all the content of the newspaper on all social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, UHH App); manages social media accounts.

Hohonu

UH Hilo’s Academic Writing Journal has the following open position:

General Editor
Works one-on-one with students during the process of editing submitted academic writings; advantages in building one’s resume, being a stronger editor, and planning events such as Meet the Author events. The general editor potentially works with professional authors in organizing such events. The academic journal, along with the other publications, gives a competitive award-for-service while letting one meet friends, build community, build campus involvement, build a sense of belonging, and get some free program swag. Hohonu is a great place to build skills as an editor, meet new people, and become a vital part of the publication process. This behind-the-scenes view is important whether they’re a new student or an experienced master’s level student, says Kirk Neikirk, the Hohonu editor in chief.

Kanilehua Art and Literary Magazine

UH Hilo’s art and literary publication has the following open positions: Layout Editor Kanilehua seeks a student proficient in graphic design (Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop) to design magazine pages and cover. The layout editor will have the opportunity to be part of the creative process and engage with a dynamic team of editors.

Literary Editor
Seeking a student with a firm grasp of grammar and story to analyze and edit literary submissions. The layout editor would work alongside a fellow literary editor to select the best written work from a pool of student submissions.

Student Activities Council

The Student Activities Council has the following position openings:

Executive Chair
Manages and operates the council; serves as the primary point of contact for the council; organizes and facilitates all official meetings; works alongside the SAC Vice-Chair to ensure the success of the event and the efficient operations of the council.

Secretary
Creates and organizes large events; has executive responsibilities of SAC; organizes meetings; documents meetings and inventory; organizes interviews, questions and applications for upcoming SAC members.

Treasurer
Creates a budget and budget narrative for the council; maintains all fiscal records for the council; tracks council spending and maintains records for the council; provides regular spending and budget reports for the council.

Event Planner
Creates small to medium sized events; plans, attends, manages, and both sets up and breaks down events with cultural, recreational, social, or educational components; attend official meetings.

Board of Student Publications

The Board of Student Publications has the following position openings:

Chairperson
In training Fall 2021 - Official Spring 2022. Spokesperson for the board who hosts, schedules and creates documents for official and operational meetings.

Vice-Chairperson
Official Fall 2021 - Spring 2022. Spokesperson for the publications to the board who attends publication meetings and relays questions or important information back to the board.

Treasurer
In training Fall 2021 - Official Spring 2022. Reviews and keeps track of board finances, prepares, develops and manages the annual budget.

Secretary
In training Fall 2021 - Official Spring 2022. Transcribes and sends meeting minutes, maintains board documents and job descriptions.

Publicist
Official Fall 2021 - Spring 2022. Man- ages and maintains board social media platforms, creates content advertising for the board and its opportunities.

Board of Media Broadcasting

The Board of Media Broadcasting has the following open position:

Treasurer
The treasurer is one of five members of the Board of Media Broadcasting and is the primary fiscal authority for the BOMB and its programs. Some overall duties for the board members include attending weekly meetings, ensuring the perpetuation of the BOMB’s mission, and being present to plan and execute events. Job specific duties for the trea- surer include organizing and maintain- ing fiscal records, submitting financial reports in a timely manner, and working alongside the board to ensure responsible and timely spending.

University Radio Hilo

University Radio Hilo has the following open position:

General Manager
The overall responsibility of the general manager is to ensure that the entirety of URH is working to perpetuate the overall mission and vision statement of URH by leading staff as first in command, keeping in close contact with the Board of Media Broadcasting, ensuring the progression of the URH radio, and assisting in planning and executing events for UH Hilo students.

Vulcan Video Productions

Vulcan Video Productions has the following open positions:

General Manager
The overall responsibility of the general manager is to ensure that the entirety of Vulcan Video Productions is working to perpetuate the overall mission and vision statement of VVP by leading staff as first in command, keeping in close contact with the Board of Media Broadcasting, ensuring the progression of VVP content, and assisting in planning and executing events for UH Hilo students.

Production Manager
Second in command to the general manager, the responsibility of production manager includes, but is not limited to, maintaining proper scheduling of Vulcan Video Productions projects and events, reviewing content created by VVP members alongside the general manager, and ensuring that the duties of the general crew are being carried out properly and efficiently.

Lead Videographer
The overall responsibility of lead videographer is to ensure that quality content is being created by maintaining proper care and inventory of all equipment, training members of Vulcan Video Productions on the proper use of equipment, and meeting the deadlines that are set by the general manager and production manager. This position may include traveling with members to filming locations.

Lead Editor
The responsibility of lead editor is to oversee that all content is edited to reflect the quality of Vulcan Video Productions and ensure that all content falls under the UH Hilo Rules and Regulations and Student Code of Conduct. Edits to videos may include subtitles, transitions, introduction, and branding. The lead editor is responsible for uploading videos to the proper social media platforms after approval from the general manager and production manager.

Vulcan Vloggers
All vulcan vloggers are expected to produce a short or vlog-type video on a bi-weekly basis that fall under UH Hilo Rules and Regulations and Student Code of Conduct. Vloggers must attend weekly meetings, all VVP events, and are highly encouraged to attend University Radio Hilo and Board of Media Broadcasting events.

General Crew
All general crew are expected to assist in the overall progress of all videos by attending weekly meetings, helping to create social media content for VVP, and coordinate on-site camera operations for videos. More duties may fall onto general crew members depending on where assistance is needed.
