Summary:
The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview that the role of archaeobotany had in Hawaiian palaeoethnobotany. Here, a brief historical sketch of past archaeobotanical endeavors is provided with a summary of several analyses that were done, (some of which are unpublished), of pollen, wood, phytoliths, and other plant materials that were recovered through flotation. In addition, the problems and potentials of these disparate but related lines of inquiry are discussed.
