Summary:
The following is an article by Miss Wake Akegarasu regarding a Hochi-sponsored Archaeological Field Trip that was taken on July 21, 1956 to the 12,050 ft. elevation of Mauna Kea where a group of explorers hoped to reconstruct the life of ancient Hawaiians who fashioned tools atop Mauna Kea. The author describes the group's activities at the Keanakakoi adze quarry, cave, and shrine, where large pieces of adze blanks, rejects of blanks, large basalt flakes and chips of flakes, opihi shells, bird bones, fish bones, gourd, charcoal, kukui and other unidentifiable vegetative material were found. Also found were several other adze quarries, shelters, workshops, and deep craters that were associated with shrine-like upright stones.
