Summary:
The University of Hawaii (UH) proposes to seek approval of the Mauna Kea Comprehensive Management Plan (CMP) to achieve effective management of natural and cultural resources within leased State lands located in a Conservation District (the UH Management Areas). The CMP provides a management framework for UH to address existing and future astronomical, recreational, commercial, scientific research, and cultural activities in the UH Management Areas. It identifies measures to enhance public participation in the management process. The CMP, once approved by the Board of Land and Natural Resources, will be the guiding management plan for University decisions. All activities within the UH Management Areas will have to be consistent with the provisions of the CMP, as well as with applicable provisions of the Conservation District Use regulations and other laws and regulations. Based on the information contained in this Final Environmental Assessment, UH has determined that the proposed action will not have a significant impact on the environment. Accordingly, it is issuing a Finding of No Significant Impact for the proposed action.
