- Summary:
- The proposed Hale Pohaku Master Plan envisions a multi-functional area serving the recreation needs of the public as well as the program needs of the Department of Land and Natural Resources and the University of Hawaii, Institute of Astronomy. The overall objectives of the Hale Pohaku Master Plan are derived from the Mauna Kea Plan. Paraphrased from that document they are as follows: To determine the capability of Hale Pohaku to accommodate various uses without unacceptable damage to biotic values, scientific attributes, archaeological resources, and the visual appearance of the mountain and to establish a physical plan for use of Hale Pohaku based on the activities outlined in the Mauna Kea Plan which will minimize existing and potential conflicts between these uses. In addition, the goals, objectives and needs of each of the user groups as well as the goals and objectives of the Hawaii State Plan and the Hawaii County General Plan, were taken into consideration in formulating the plan.
