Summary:
The University of Hawaii (UH), through its Institute for Astronomy (IfA), on behalf of the California Association for Research in Astronomy (CARA), requests approval by the Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) of this Conservation District Use Application (CDUA) within the Resource Subzone of the Conservation District at Mauna Kea, Hamakua, Hawaii (Tax Map Keys: 4-4-15:09 & 12). The purpose of this CDUA is to expand the W. M. Keck Observatory (WMKO) by adding six 1.8-meter (72-inch) Outrigger Telescopes on the existing observatory site within the summit area of the Mauna Kea Science Reserve. The Outrigger Telescopes will be a permanent addition to the observatory with funding provided by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
