Summary:
The interaction between downslope flow and trade-wind showers over windward sections of the Hawaii Island is studied with the data from the Hawaiian Rainband Project on 7-8 August 1990. It appears that there is some focusing and enhancement produced by the increased convergence as the showers meet the drainage front. The mixing associated with the showers destroys the downslope flow and reestablishes a drainage front further inland.
