- Summary:
- Properly defined seismic specifications are important in designing telescope and observatory structure. Seismic hazard should also be considered during site selection. In seismic analysis, three ways of analyzing the performance of the telescope structure and observatory building include equivalent static analysis, modal response spectrum analysis, and linear and non-linear time history analysis. Four devices can be used to mitigate the seismic risk: 1) base isolators, 2) viscous dampers, 3) seismic restraints, and 4) seismic releases.
