- This document describes a study that was done of ants, a potential predator of insects upon which the Palila feed. The area that was studied ran from the Saddle Road (1850-2000 m elev) to the southwest slope of Mauna Kea (approximately 2400 m elev). The method that was used to do the study and the results of the study are included in this document. Photographs of the areas that were studies and the ants that were found in the various areas are also included.
