Summary:
The three forest birds are endemic to the island of Hawaii. This report summarized the exhaustive search of literature and field journals etc. on relative abundance and geographical distribution from 1779 to 1978. Analysis indicated that from the 1890's to 1978 depopulation ranged from severe to complete in the lowlands, and from moderate to severe in mid- and upper elevation locations.
